CITGO corporate social responsibility initiatives help to improve the quality of life especially for those who feel the severe backlash of poverty. As part of these initiatives, CITGO implements Sponsorship and Grant Programs for communities in strategic and operational areas.
This program typically gives funds to non-profit groups and educational institutions for events and programs in strategic and operational areas such as Corpus Christi, Texas; Houston, Texas; Lake Charles, Louisiana; and Lemont, Illinois. In general, charitable sponsorships are those that benefit the community while also providing recognition for CITGO. Applicants for marketing sponsorships or for sponsorships of events and/or activities not directed to a charitable purpose should send proposals to sponsorships@citgo.com.
This program typically awards grants to non-profit organizations and educational institutions to implement projects that aim to improve the quality of life of people. Priority is given to projects that have impact in at least one of the following thematic areas:
Energy Assistance: As a company in the energy business, we consider it our foremost social obligation to use the strength of our resources to help people in need. Our energy assistance programs help families and individuals who struggle for basic human necessities due to high home energy costs. As the most human and caring company in our industry, we choose to contribute resources in areas that have the greatest impact in our communities—and beyond. Our energy assistance programs include the Heating Oil Program and the Energy Efficient Lighting Program.
Environmental Protection, Conservation & Restoration: CITGO is soundly committed to environmental stewardship and safeguarding the environment we all share—for today and generations to come. In addition to numerous employee-driven environmental efforts, we invest in long-term programs dedicated to the restoration of natural habitats and promoting energy conservation.
The grants program typically funds projects that restore and conserve vital ecosystems such as wetlands and marshlands; promote energy conservation and efficiency through efforts such as weatherization in homes; and support educational and advocacy efforts on environmental issues.
Education & Social Investment: Through knowledge, communities are equipped to achieve long-lasting sustainability. That's why we support educational social initiatives that create meaningful impact while addressing some of today's biggest societal barriers. Our investments aim to empower people who contribute to the progress and economic growth in their own local communities to break the cycle of poverty.
The grants program typically funds activities that provide services and promote community efforts to improve access to educational opportunities for youth and adults. Funding is targeted for programs that reduce high-school drop-out rates, support the path to higher education, and provide workforce training.
Health: Through our charitable organization—the Simón Bolívar Foundation®—we help provide access to specialized medical treatment and critical health services for people affected by poverty. We are also a long-time supporter and largest corporate sponsor of national efforts to find a cure for muscular dystrophy through the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Our health initiatives are a critical part to help improve the lives of people.
Through our grants program, we typically support direct service delivery programs that address immediate health needs (e.g. healthy living and preventative health care) while leveraging services that educate and empower beneficiaries to take ownership of their health.
