Two CITGO Anglers Claim Top-10 Finishes
Grigsby & Mize Find Success in Lake Seminole BASSMASTER Tour Event

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (Feb. 11, 2003) It was a huge weekend for the CITGO National Pro Staff at Lake Seminole as Shaw Grigsby and Jimmy Mize each collected top-10 finishes in this past weekends CITGO BASSMASTER Tour event.
CITGO's newest professional angler Grigsby, a BASS Tour winner at Lake Seminole in 1993 and 2000, grabbed the fifth slot after reeling in 52 pounds and 11 ounces of fish over the four-day tournament. The legendary angler fought his way through the cold and wet weather to make Sundays Super Six field with a strong effort on Friday (17-11) and Saturday (17-2). "When that cold weather came in and they (the fish) backed off; it pushed them up under heavy cover and off in the drops (deeper water) and that's the way you had to fish," said the Gainesville, Fla., resident. "Fortunately, I found some under heavy cover, and had a good tournament." "If we had kept the warm weather we had on Monday and Tuesday, it would have been wide open," Grigsby continued. "The fish would have just loved it. They would have all been laying on the banks and been having a grand time." Grigsby talked about Sunday's action. "I used a 25-pound green Stren (fishing line), and a new PT Tour edition rod, and they just didn't bite," Grigsby said. "I had two bites today and that was it. It happens that way on some days. I had a pretty good strategy this weekend and I'm thrilled with the results." Fellow CITGO angler Jimmy Mize also had an excellent tournament, taking home a strong seventh-place finish. The Arkansas resident came up with a three-day total of 40 pounds and five ounces. "I love this lake," Mize said. "It's a great lake and the type of lake that I like to fish. It has a lot of grass, which provides many great areas to fish." "I lost one big fish and it cost me a chance to fish on Sunday," Mize continued. "I was throwing a Diamond Shad crankbait. And that's what I caught every fish on -- except one." Mize also credited his wife for this weekend's success in southwestern Georgia. "She's (Wife Lucy Mize) won a couple of tournaments here and showed me a couple of spots where she's always caught them," Mize said. "I also found a second spot, but was never able to find it again in the tournament. I blew a fuse on the GPS and couldn't mark it in the water. My daughter and I pulled up there the other day and caught a five (pounder) and an eight to nine pounder. But, I was never able to find it again. The sun didn't shine where I could see it until late in the afternoon. And by then, it was too late. "The other place I fished was a shallow pocket the fish moved into," Mize said. "I also threw a rattle trap lure a bunch this weekend. I tried a lot of things and a lot of them worked, so overall, it was a good weekend." CITGO Pro angler Gerald Swindle finished 108th with a nine pound, 11 ounce weekend total; Tim Carroll captured 127th at 8-11; and Marty Stone was 167th with a 2-2 total. The CITGO BASSMASTER Tournament Tour's next stop will be Feb. 20-23 at the Toledo Bend Reservoir, located in Many, Louisiana. |
