Phoenix, Ariz. – June 8, 2012 – Local CITGO Marketer Pioneer Distributing Company raised more than $30,000 at the 40th annual Golf fore Gompers tournament on April 27, 2012. All proceeds from the event will help launch the i-C.A.N. program, which will provide disabled individuals in Arizona with communications technology and training to enhance their lives.

“For the last two years, Pioneer Distributing Company has hosted the Golf fore Gompers Tournament, which is a fun day on the greens and a great way to give back to the community,” said Tiffany Stultz with Pioneer Distributing. “We appreciate the generous support from all of the players and sponsors who are helping  i-C.A.N. get off to a great start.”

Launching later this year, the i-C.A.N. program is “where technology enhances ability.” People with disabilities will have the opportunity to utilize technology to increase and enhance their communication, socialization and employment skills. The i-C.A.N. program is part of the Gompers Habilitation Center, an organization dedicated to providing special programs and education to those with disabilities since 1947.

One hundred twenty-eight golfers competed in the tournament held at The Raven Golf Club, including approximately 10 individuals with disabilities. Following the tournament, there was a silent auction for prizes, including two round-trip tickets from Southwest Airlines and a Pink Trek bike donated by the Bike Barn, a raffle, and a prize ceremony for the players. More than 30 businesses, including CITGO Petroleum Corporation, Brenntag Pacific Chandler, Ariz. Branch, and UBS Bank, provided donations and other assistance to help break last year’s fundraising record.
