Lake Charles, LA, Aug. 30, 2012 – Team CITGO at CITGO Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex celebrated 25 years of community service in Southwest Louisiana, July 12, at L’Auberge Lake Charles.
Team CITGO volunteers, CITGO Senior Management, the volunteer organizations Team CITGO serves and Southwest Louisiana elected officials celebrated the Team CITGO 25th Anniversary by reminiscing its history and looking forward to the future.
Mayor of Lake Charles Randy Roach and Mayor of Sulphur Chris Duncan thanked volunteers for their service to Southwest Louisiana and for their commitment and dedication throughout the years. In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Team CITGO, Mayor Roach proclaimed Thursday, July 12, 2012, as “Team CITGO Day.”
CITGO Vice President Refining and Vice President and General Manager Eduardo Assef said Team CITGO is a great influence that connects generations in Southwest Louisiana.
“When Team CITGO started in 1987, employees had a dream to be a part of something great that would reach future generations. Today, we celebrate that dream coming true.”
Team CITGO at CITGO Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex is well-known in Southwest Louisiana for its commitment to the surrounding community. Team CITGO volunteers, recognized by their red Team CITGO shirts, give their free time to volunteer for worthy causes and charitable organizations in SWLA.
In 2011, Team CITGO achieved an unprecedented total of 2,973 volunteer hours with more than 200 people volunteering at nearly 30 events throughout the year. These are just a few of the organizations Team CITGO impacts: Children’s Miracle Network, Family and Youth Counseling Agency, American Heart Association, Sulphur Care Help, Boys Village, Special Olympics, Literacy Council, American Cancer Society, The Rebuilding of Millennium Park.
Team CITGO was the first industry volunteer organization in Southwest Louisiana and has a rich history of developing volunteerism in the five parish area. The Team CITGO mission is to be regarded by the community as the most caring, energetic and effective corporate volunteer group in the Lake Area, thereby demonstrating employee commitment to one of the key corporate values of CITGO: promoting volunteerism and taking an active role in the communities CITGO serves.
