"Our dedicated team of more than 150 volunteers pays for its own travel to and from our camp locations. The generous donation from CITGO will cover our volunteers' travel costs and will fuel transportation for our campers at our various locations." said Cushner-Weinstein. "The CITGO Fueling Good Project award really pulled the entire camp community together when we needed it most."

The CITGO Gift Cards will help BCA foster resiliency, self-advocacy and positive well-being among campers living with epilepsy, neurofibromatosis, congenital heart disorders, diabetes, Tourette syndrome and many other conditions. BCA operates an American Camping Association-approved site in High View, W. Va., where children living with these conditions can learn, speak about concerns and ask questions about the future in a fun, supportive setting with highly-trained medical professionals. BCA works with Children's National Research Institute to understand the impact of these conditions and assess interventions to empower children.

In 1994, Brainy Camps Association opened its doors to 23 campers. Twenty years later, BCA has grown into a consortium of 10 medically supervised, condition-specific, residential camps and retreats for approximately 400 children, teens and adults with chronic health conditions. The non-profit creates healthy communities where partnerships between patients and doctors are promoted, independence and self-management are encouraged, education is offered, social connections are supported, and the impact of condition specific camps is studied. The family-oriented camps also allow parents and siblings to participate with campers and learn to live well with their conditions. To learn more visit http://www.brainycamps.com/.
