Bronx, N.Y. – Mar. 26, 2015 – CITGO Marketer Global Partners LP partnered with CITGO Petroleum Corporation and Miss New York 2014 Jillian Tapper to support 501(c)3 nonprofit youth development organization South Bronx United, Inc. (SBU) during the recent holiday season. Miss New York visited a group of 20 middle school students who are taking part in SBU’s academic tutoring program held at The Urban Assembly School for Careers in Sports at the Mott Haven High School Campus in the Bronx.

“Bronx residents have loyally supported our business for years, and we wanted to show our appreciation by giving back to the community,” said Global Partners Executive Vice President Andrew Slifka. “We’re delighted to join with CITGO to further the educational possibilities for these children who are learning first-hand about the importance of teamwork while at SBU and who will grow up to be leaders of our community.”

South Bronx United uses soccer as a tool to enrich the lives of more than 600 boys and girls, ages 4-19, through programs on and off the field.  South Bronx United combines soccer programs with academic tutoring, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness promotion, and other youth and family support services.

As part of the “fueling good” effort, CITGO, Global Partners and Miss New York presented the students with school supplies as well as gift cards for CITGO and Modell’s Sporting Goods. Miss New York, along with other titleholders from the Miss America Organization, regularly partners with CITGO and its Marketers to highlight education and address other important issues such as anti-bullying.

“Our students were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet Miss New York. They genuinely connected with her enlightening messages against bullying, finding a mentor and achieving life goals,” said Andrew So, executive director of SBU. “We are also very thankful to CITGO and Global Partners LP for the sporting equipment and school supplies which have gone right back to the youth and to our program activities.”
