SULPHUR, La. – Jan. 18, 2016 – CITGO Lake Charles Refinery employees recently gave more than $696,000 to the United Way of Southwest Louisiana (SWLA), raising more than 17 percent of the United Way regional goal of $4 million. The funds were raised by employees during the 2015 annual CITGO United Way SWLA, “Together We Stand” campaign that took place during the fall.

CITGO Petroleum Corporation employees contribute to United Way through its annual campaign and CITGO continues to be the largest benefactor of the organization, having donated more than $13.4 million since 1975. Employees’ donations go directly to United Way and help run the 28 United Way agencies and 53 programs in Southwest Louisiana that continue to make a huge difference in the quality of life of people. The campaign supports the most pressing health and human service needs represented in Southwest Louisiana through the holiday season and into the New Year.

CITGO Vice President & General Manager Tomeu Vadell said CITGO employees are the backbone of the Southwest Louisiana community in supporting organizations like United Way that provide resources to local families. “This year, employees took it to the next level to stand together in giving through the CITGO United Way campaign. Our employees continue to show their generosity through the decades by raising funds that support the communities we live and work in. We are so proud of their efforts,” Vadell said.

President & Chief Executive Officer United Way SWLA Denise Durel said United Way is grateful for CITGO employees’ contributions. “Thanks to the generosity of the CITGO employees, we all live in a better and stronger community. United Way of SWLA is extremely fortunate to have the unwavering support of the CITGO team and I am simply amazed by the level of commitment we receive year after year,” said Durel.
