HOUSTON, June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Liquid Terminals Association (ILTA) recognized CITGO Petroleum Corporation with its Platinum Safety Award for safety excellence, making it the fourth time that CITGO received this prestigious industry award – more than any other organization member – in the past 10 years.

ILTA 2016 Platinum Safety Award

The top award, presented during the 36th Annual International Operating Conference & Trade Show in Houston, recognizes the year's most exemplary performer based on 2015 data for all domestic terminal operations and a thorough review of the applicant's safety and management systems.

"At CITGO, our goal is to consistently create a work environment that keeps every CITGO employee, contractor and neighbor safe. We are honored that our CITGO Terminal Facilities and Pipeline group is being recognized at the highest level, once again, for that commitment to safety," said CITGO President and CEO Nelson Martínez.

CITGO owns and operates 48 petroleum product terminals, which comprise one of the largest networks in the country.

ILTA represents 86 companies and partnerships that operate bulk liquid storage terminals in 49 countries. These facilities are located in ports and along rivers, canals and pipelines. They serve the vital economic purpose of transferring liquid products from one transportation mode to another. Products handled by ILTA members include crude oil, refined petroleum products, chemicals, renewable fuels, fertilizers, vegetable oils, and other food grade materials.
