Lemont, Ill. – Nov. 2, 2017 – The CITGO Lemont Refinery is a committed partner of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and has raised more than $600,000 for the organization during 2017. Funds raised help underwrite clinical research, assist with medical and rehabilitation costs, and send children affected by neurological diseases to MDA Summer Camp in Hudson, Ill.

According to MDA Director of Distinguished Events April Elashik, through the generous support of corporations like CITGO, the MDA is able to offer services at no cost to families with children affected by neurological diseases.

CITGO has supported the MDA for more than 30 years, and has raised more than $210 million for the organization. In Illinois, the CITGO Lemont Refinery annually hosts fundraising events for the MDA and those battling a neuromuscular disease. Events include Driving for a Cure Golf Outing, Shamrock Bowl and the Fill the Boot Campaign. For the second year in a row, the CITGO Lemont Refinery also served as a presenting sponsor for the MDA Chicago Muscle Team event which took place on Oct. 27. Funds raised will help send children to MDA Camp which costs $2,000 per camper.

“Through the continued support of our employees, contractors and area businesses, CITGO is honored to be a part of bringing more treatments and support to those fighting a muscular disease,” said Jim Cristman, Vice President and General Manager of the CITGO Lemont Refinery.
