SULPHUR – Jan. 10, 2019 – CITGO Lake Charles Refinery employees celebrated the holiday season through finding meaningful ways to give back to the Southwest Louisiana community, including $3,369 in monetary donations and by donating turkeys.

Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex Vice President and General Manager Jerry Dunn said he is proud of the CITGO family. “CITGO employees care deeply for our community and it shows through their generous donations. They understand the value of looking for alternative ways to give back. This is truly what the holiday season is all about.”

As a token of appreciation for safety awareness demonstrated at the Lake Charles refinery throughout the year, CITGO Lake Charles safety directors distributed turkeys to employees during Thanksgiving. To kick off the season of giving, many employees chose to donate their turkeys to organizations like the Lions Club and Church of the King. Both organizations used the turkeys to provide meals for local families. In addition, CITGO Lab employees cooked and sold meals during lunch throughout the year to raise funds in order to provide a $500 donation to CITGO Partner in Education, E.K. Key Elementary School and a $500 donation to Oasis A Safe Haven.

Executive Director of Oasis A Safe Haven Kathy Williams said the donations from CITGO support Oasis in preparing domestic violence victims to live independently. “We use these donations to purchase items for our residents’ direct assistance that grants do not pay for, including bus tickets, car batteries, tires or work uniforms. These essential things are necessary to help survivors be independent. Oasis is so thankful and appreciative of the continued support from the CITGO Lab employees.”

In addition to these efforts during the holiday season, TeamCITGO volunteers also participated in Christmas Cram, a local event established to provide toys for children in the SWLA area. Along with volunteering their time, CITGO employees raised $2,269 for Christmas Cram through raffle ticket sales.
