HOUSTON, August 1, 2019 – CITGO Petroleum Corporation (CITGO) is proud to announce a new promotional and philanthropic partnership with the Michigan Athletics (U of M) and Michigan State Athletics (MSU). This fall, Michigan drivers will be treated to three separate events at participating CITGO locations: a Rivalry Spirit Pump promotion, a Game Day VIP Experience Sweepstakes and finally, a Charity Drive to Retail Promotion.

"CITGO is honored to be able to work with two highly-respected schools and to provide their fans the chance to support their favorite team’s charity,” said Jonathan Watson, CITGO General Manager Light Oils Marketing. “It is so important to be able to give back and invest in Michigan, a community where we have so many local marketers and retailers.”

From August 1 to September 30, select CITGO locations will feature “Rivalry Spirit Pumps” adorned with U of M or MSU graphics. Fueling up at a Rivalry Spirit Pump will automatically donate 1 cents per gallon to the chosen charity of the respective school: U of M will be supporting the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, with the mission to integrate clinical care, education, research and advocacy to advance the health status of children, women, and their families and communities statewide. MSU will be donating their winnings to the Michigan State University Food Bank, a non-profit founded to help students who are dealing with food insecurity.

Beginning August 7 and running through October 9, fans will have a chance to enter the Game Day VIP Experience Sweepstakes Promotion through their Club CITGO App. Once entered, fans will have the chance to win one of the five Game Day VIP Experience Packages that includes two tickets to the U of M vs. MSU game, access to parking and a VIP tent, a $500 hotels gift card, a $250 CITGO Gift Card, a $250 VISA® gift card and a $250 team gear gift card. There will also be a chance to win one of five second place prizes that includes a $100 CITGO Gift Card and a $100 team gear gift card.  The teams will face off Nov. 16 at the Big House.

The rivalry will continue from Oct. 10 through Dec. 31 with a Charity Drive to Retail campaign. Fans will be able to select their favorite team through their Club CITGO App while fueling up at participating Michigan CITGO stations or at designated areas around the campus’. The school that logs the most CHECK-INs will receive a $10,000 donation from CITGO for its school’s charity, while the other school will receive a $5,000 donation from CITGO for their charity.

“There are two certainties about Michiganders: they love their college football and they love taking care of their communities,” said Jim Linton, vice president at Folk Oil. “These promotions incorporate both. I can’t wait to see these two great fan bases competing to raise money for great causes and win fantastic prizes.”
