HOUSTON, June 29, 2022 -- CITGO Petroleum Corporation recently partnered with Rebuilding Together Houston on the “40 Roofs for 40 Years” initiative, which helps ensure safer and more resilient homes for low-income elderly, U.S. military veterans, and working families in need.
Today, TeamCITGO volunteers put the finishing touches on repairs to the home of Ms. Shellie Williams in Houston’s historic Sunnyside neighborhood. Through donations by CITGO and GAF, Rebuilding Together provided a new roof for Ms. Williams’ home.
CITGO has partnered with Rebuilding Together on numerous community disaster recovery and resilience projects in recent years, including plumbing repairs for at-risk seniors and military veterans following the 2021 winter storm emergency and renovations to more than 186 homes following Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
The volunteer event comes as the region enters the 2022 hurricane season. Each year, CITGO supports numerous community organizations that help communities prepare and provide immediate and long-term disaster relief. Earlier this month, CITGO awarded community resilience grants to organizations in Houston, Lake Charles, La., Corpus Christi, Texas, and the Lemont, Ill. areas, including the United Way, Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels program and the Gulf of Mexico Alliance.
“As we prepare for another hurricane season in the Gulf, it’s a privilege to stand alongside our neighbors in creating stronger, more resilient communities,” said CITGO President and CEO Carlos Jordá.
Headquartered in Houston, Texas, CITGO Petroleum Corporation is a recognized leader in the refining industry with a well-known brand. CITGO operates three refineries located in Lake Charles, La.; Lemont, Ill.; and Corpus Christi, Texas, and wholly and/or jointly owns 38 active terminals, six pipelines and three lubricants blending and packaging plants. With approximately 3,300 employees and a combined crude capacity of approximately 769,000 barrels-per-day (bpd), CITGO is ranked as the fifth-largest, and one of the most complex independent refiners in the United States. CITGO transports and markets transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals and other industrial products and supplies a network of approximately 4,400 locally owned and operated branded retail outlets, all located east of the Rocky Mountains. CITGO Petroleum Corporation is owned by CITGO Holding, Inc.
About Rebuilding Together Houston
For 40 years, Rebuilding Together Houston has been the only organization in our region to provide hundreds of families annually with home repairs. With more than 14,680 neighbors served, we have averaged one family helped per day for 40 years. Our work adds 20 years or more to the life of a home, making it safer and more resilient against disaster. We enlist community volunteers and licensed contractors to repair the homes of low-income elderly, U.S. Military Veterans, and working families in need. Our work improves the safety and structural integrity of homes that are passed from generation to generation, helping to retain the character of Houston neighborhoods by keeping families in communities that they helped to build. Together with our corporate supporters and community partners, our mission is Repairing Homes, Revitalizing Communities, and Rebuilding Lives. Our vision is safe homes and communities for everyone.
