HOUSTON , Sept. 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- With food insecurity on the rise nationwide, CITGO Petroleum Corporation is responding with $90,000 in donations to organizations tackling hunger head-on during Hunger Action Month. These contributions will translate into meals, food rescue, and community programs that serve hundreds of thousands of neighbors in need throughout the year.

"Caring for our communities means making sure no one has to face hunger alone," said CITGO Vice President Human Resources and Support Services Kresha Sivinski. "These partnerships give families not only access to nutritious meals, but also the stability and hope that every person deserves."

The donations include:

  • $35,000 to Coastal Bend Food Bank ( Corpus Christi, Texas)
The Coastal Bend Food Bank's mission is to fight hunger and promote wellness through food distribution and nutrition education. The donation will help provide 140,000 meals for children, single mothers, college students, families, and seniors across 11 counties. With nearly 20% of clients visiting for the first time, the funds address the growing demand for hunger relief during difficult economic times.
  • $25,000 to Northern Illinois Food Bank ( Lemont, Ill.)
Northern Illinois Food Bank provides nutritious food and resources with dignity, equity, and convenience through a network of more than 900 partners. The contribution will help distribute millions of meals across 13 counties, where the Food Bank serves an average of 570,000 neighbors each month.
  • $15,000 to Second Servings of Houston ( Houston, Texas)
Second Servings rescues surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and redirects it to underserved populations. The contribution will fuel the organization's fleet of refrigerated vans for eight months, enabling recovery of more than 2.3 million pounds of food valued at $16 million. The rescued food will reach 170,000 individuals and families through 150 nonprofit partners across Houston, where food insecurity is three times the national average.
  • $15,000 to Sulphur Christian Community Coalition ( Lake Charles, La.)
Sulphur Christian Community Coalition works to strengthen neighborhoods through authentic relationships, empowerment programs, and community development. The donation will support the Hope at Home program, which provides families with weekly meal kits containing fresh ingredients, recipe cards, and encouragement notes. The program not only ensures consistent access to nutritious meals but also fosters family togetherness and community connection.
