LAKE CHARLES, La. – March 14, 2026 – Community members from across Southwest Louisiana turned out Saturday for the annual CITGO E Recycle Day, continuing a long-standing effort to promote responsible disposal of electronic waste.

CITGO E-Recycle Day gives residents a convenient way to recycle outdated or unwanted electronics such as computers, printers, fax machines, televisions, sound equipment, cell phones, tablets and gaming consoles. Nearly 500 vehicles passed through the collection site at the Lake Charles Event Center. TeamCITGO volunteers handled the unloading for participants, accumulating enough electronic waste to fill 5 extra large roll off boxes, equivalent to 4 semis. Additionally, about 300 light bulbs and several items containing mercury were collected for safe disposal.

“This event has been a cornerstone of our environmental efforts for 18 years, and during that time we’ve collected more than600 tons of electronic waste,” said Sterling Neblett, vice president and general manager of the CITGO Lake Charles Refinery. “It is encouraging to see such strong community participation year after year as we work together to keep hazardous materials out of landfills and protect our environment.”

CITGO E Recycle Day alternates annually between Lake Charles and Sulphur to make participation easier for residents throughout the area. The event is organized by the CITGO Lake Charles Refinery and supported by community partners, including the City of Lake Charles Wastewater Division, Hine Environmental Services, the Lake Charles Event Center and the Ward 3 Marshal’s Office.
