Critical to improving the lives of our communities is the CITGO support to initiatives that help improve and save the lives of people in need.

Muscular Dystrophy Association - MDA®

Leading the Way for a Cure

Since 1986, we have supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association and its noble work of making life better for individuals with neuromuscular disease and their families. To date, CITGO employees, contractors, marketers, retailers, family and friends have helped raise more than $250 million through a variety of fundraising events, from golf and bowling tournaments to walk-a-thons, shamrock sales, and auctions.

The United Way

The United Way has been a big part of the CITGO culture for more than 40 years. Each year our refineries have fundraising events that raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the United Way in our local communities. Lake Charles employees have been contributing since 1975, and Corpus Christi and Lemont employees have been contributing since 2009 and 1998 respectively. We are proud of our roots in supporting the United Way.

In 2018, we raised more than $1.5 million from employee contributions, fundraising events and corporate-match donations. This amounts to donations of more than $21 million since 1975.

Simón Bolívar Foundation

The Simón Bolívar Foundation (SBF) was established in 2006 as the 501(c)(3) non-profit, private foundation of CITGO Petroleum Corporation. The SBF serves as a catalyst to transform lives by connecting and networking community members to take community action. Initiatives leverage existing resources and invest in organizations to meet the immediate and long-term health needs of the most vulnerable in and from Venezuela, the United States and other countries. The SBF supports a wide range of programming and direct support—creating dividends to the benefit wider community for years to come.
